Ten Class A Girls Squads Who Believe 2018 Is Their Year

Luverne

Luverne placed sixth at State in 2017, but should have a decent chance of improving on that spot, and probably even contend for a podium position. Every single one of their top seven will be returning this fall, while every squad that finished above them last season other than Perham lost at least one major contributor to graduation. Not to mention, Tenley Nelson and Regan Feit have a case for the second best duo in Class A. Both Nelson and Feit finished in the top 15 at State last year. The biggest weakness of this team is their large spread, a number that approaches three minutes. Part of that is a testament to how talented the budding star Nelson is, but in more competitive races like State, those points add up. However, there is some good news. Brooklynn Versteeg has established herself as a solid third runner, and served as the anchor leg for Luverne's state-champion 4x800 in June, but their next five runners have PRs all witihin 30 seconds of each other, indicating there is no set order to their scorers. This depth will come in handy come November by providing Luverne a greater margin of error, while also taking pressure off their runners.
