Isabelle Schmitz was able to hang with her for a while, but eventually, Luna Scorzelli was able to pull away from the field en route to her first state title. Scorzelli ran a time of 17:45.04 which was 33 seconds ahead of the field. The junior has now won her last 4 meets of the season. She is the first Highland Park girl's individual state champion since 1976.

Schmitz the defending Class AA champion had her 19-race win streak in Minnesota broken but was able to land her third straight top-ten finish at state (including the TCRC XC Showcase).

Of the top ten individual finishers this year in Class AA, eight will return next season in what looks to be another very competitive year in Class AA. The only two seniors were Kendra Krueger and Hailee Zimpel.

It was a close race most of the way but in the end, Emmett Gerres did what he's done all year and won. Gerres won his tenth straight race to secure his first state title after an 8th-place finish last year and two runner-up finishes at this year's state track championships in the 800m and 1600m.

Gerres ran to an 8th-place finish last year with a time of 16:25.12 and beat that time by over a minute this year. He also beat Alden Keller's winning time last year of 15:53.27 by almost 40 seconds.

Overall it was a much faster Class AA this time around with the top 9 runners all eclipsing Keller's winning time from last year. Even Keller himself coming back from an almost season-long injury beat his time from last year by 14 seconds.

From winning your first section title ever to winning your first state title ever in a little over a week, it has to feel good to be a Mankato East XC runner right now. The Mankato East boys led by Isaiah Anderson narrowly beat out the Rock Ridge boys by two points for their first state XC title ever.

The Mankato East boys steadily moved up in the team standings from 10th at the first-mile marker, to 6th at the 2-mile mark, and then were the first team to have all five runners in for the title.
